The Morisot dress is an evening gown. Worn at the beginning of the Third Republic, this style was much appreciated by women to go out to the opera or to dance at balls.
It consists of a skirt, and a silk or polyester taffeta bodice.
The skirt is in 4 parts. The skirt underneath, in black taffeta, very ample and long enough to form a train, where 3 rows of lace protrude from the hem. At the front, 2 over-skirts, of two different colors, pleated on the sides, finished at the bottom by fringes of pearls. In the back, a band bubbling in taffeta, to give thickness. The skirt is also decorated with satin ribbons on the sides. It closes at the waist by two staples.
The bodice, very fitted on the body, has a basque in the lower back, to cover the skirt in the bottom of the kidneys. The bodice is embellished by superimposed guipure appliqués, hand-laid, as well as black glass beads.
It loops in the middle back.
